Cookie Policy
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser when you visit a website. Speakle, operated by I CAN LEARN LLC, uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember your settings and, only if you say yes, link how you use the site to your account. Anonymous counting of how the site is used, which runs after you choose Essential only, uses no cookies (section 4). This policy lists every cookie Speakle itself sets. The Android and iOS apps do not use browser cookies.
2. Your choice
The first time you visit, we ask whether you are happy for us to use:
- Analytics — which pages and features are used, and where people get stuck.
- Recordings — a masked replay of what happened on screen, heatmaps, and "rage click" and "dead click" detection. All text and everything you type is masked. You can only turn this on together with analytics.
Both are off until you say yes, and until you answer at all, nothing optional runs in your browser (our servers still count signed-in use anonymously; see the Privacy Policy). If you choose Essential only, we still count page views and feature use anonymously, with no cookie and nothing stored in your browser (section 4). If you are under 18, your use is always counted anonymously and recordings never run, even if you say yes. Saying no, or not answering, changes nothing about what you can do on Speakle.
To change your choice at any time, use the Privacy choices link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing stops identified analytics and recordings straight away, and withdrawing analytics also deletes the analytics cookies listed in section 4 from your browser; after that you are only counted anonymously. We ask again after a year.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies make Speakle work, or remember something you asked for. They do not track you across other websites and cannot be switched off while you use Speakle, though you can delete them in your browser (see section 6).
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
sb-…-auth-token (sign-in session) | Keeps you signed in. Scoped to .speakle.ai so one sign-in works across speakle.ai and teacher.speakle.ai | Until you sign out |
speakle_privacy | Remembers your analytics and recordings choice (section 2). It stores only that answer | 1 year |
speakle_locale | The interface language you picked in Settings | 1 year |
speakle_native_language | Your native language, used for the interface until you pick an interface language yourself | 1 year |
user-country, user-locale, user-currency | Your country (worked out from your IP address) so prices appear in your local currency | 1 day |
speakle_age_ok | Carries your "I am 13 or older" confirmation through a Google sign-in | 30 minutes |
speakle_age_block | Set if someone says they are under 13, so an immediate retry with a different answer is refused. Contains no personal data | 24 hours |
sp_fday | Links the answers and level check you did before creating an account to your new account | 7 days |
sp_gtest | Lets you keep the result of the free speaking test when you create an account afterwards | 7 days |
sp_intent | Remembers a class invite or referral link you followed, so it applies when you sign up | 30 days |
sp_ecl | Records that you arrived from a "confirm your email" link, so that confirmation can be saved | 30 minutes |
tp-theme | Teacher portal only: your light or dark theme | 1 year |
previewMode, sb-preview-token | Teacher portal only: lets a teacher preview their students' branded portal. Cleared when the teacher leaves preview | 15 minutes |
| Payment security cookies | Set by our payment processor on payment pages to secure checkout (subscriptions and top-ups) | Set by the processor |
First-party sign-up attribution (only if you allow usage analytics)
This cookie is set only after you allow Usage analytics. Choosing Essential only means it is never set.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
sp_ft | Records how you first reached Speakle — the landing page, the referring website, any campaign tags in the link, and whether an ad was clicked — so that, if you sign up, we know which of our links work. It holds nothing about you personally, is read only by Speakle, and is never shared with advertising networks | 90 days |
4. Analytics cookies (only if you say yes)
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
ph_* | Set by our product analytics service after you say yes to analytics (18 or older only). Holds a random identifier and the current visit, so page views and feature use can be counted. Once you sign in, your events are linked to your account (see the Privacy Policy) | Up to 1 year |
Our analytics service may also keep the same identifier in your browser's local storage; it is cleared together with the cookie when you withdraw.
If you do not say yes, no ph_* cookie is set and nothing about analytics is stored in your browser. Until you answer, no analytics request leaves your browser at all.
After you choose Essential only (and always for learners under 18), our product analytics service counts page views and feature use in its cookieless mode: no cookie, no local or session storage, no profile, no link to who you are, and no text from the screen. To count visitors, it computes a one-way code from your IP address and browser type plus a random value that changes every day and is then deleted. The code cannot be turned back into your IP address or browser details, and it cannot link one day to the next.
Error monitoring is always on, because it is how we find and fix crashes. It sets no tracking cookie and sends no recording unless you have said yes to recordings.
We run no advertising networks, no ad or social-media pixels, and we do not sell or share cookie data for advertising.
5. Other things your browser loads
Some pages load content directly from another provider, which sees your IP address and browser details the way any website does: the video on our home page (a video streaming service), illustrated avatars for learners without a photo (an avatar image service), and our payment processor's checkout script on payment pages. None of these set analytics cookies for us. See the Privacy Policy for the categories of providers we use.
6. Managing cookies in your browser
You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you signing in, and clearing speakle_privacy means we will ask for your choice again.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / See all site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
7. Changes & Contact
